Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 11, 2026. This policy explains what information The Student Loan Defense — an independent, student-run news blog — collects at thestudentloandefense.com, how we use it, and your choices.

Who we are

The Student Loan Defense is an independent, student-run blog publishing news, reporting, and commentary on student loans. We are not a lender, servicer, law firm, or debt-relief company, and we do not collect loan account numbers, Social Security numbers, or financial-account details. Please never send us that information.

Information we collect

  • Newsletter sign-up: the name and email you provide, so we can send updates. Unsubscribe anytime via the link in any email.
  • Contact form & story tips: the name, email, and details you choose to send us.
  • Comments: your comment, name, email, and IP address.
  • Analytics & cookies: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser), via cookies and a truncated IP. We do not use this to personally identify you.
  • Server & security logs: our host and security plugin log IP addresses and request data to keep the site secure.

How we use it — and what we don’t do

We use this information only to operate and improve the site, respond to you, send the newsletter you requested, and protect the site from abuse. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it except with the service providers that make the site work (Google Analytics; our email provider), each under its own privacy policy.

Story tips and submissions

As a news blog, we sometimes report on borrower experiences. If you send us a story, tip, or comment, you understand it may inform our reporting. We will not publish your name or identifying details from a private message without your permission, and we honor reasonable requests for anonymity. To ask us to remove or anonymize something you sent, contact us.

We use cookies for analytics and basic functionality. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may work less well without them.

Your choices and rights

  • Request a copy of, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Control cookies through your browser.

To make any of these requests, contact us.
